Ed Tech Salaries: Small Institutions Can't Compete

For the past three years the salary survey data have shown a clear barbell effect with tech director salaries analyzed by tuition.  Large institutions (either public or high-tuition private schools) are consistently able to outspend their smaller counterparts.

Savvy aspiring executives might look for silver linings in trends like this.  If smaller schools can't afford top-tier tech talent, what about bringing your technology skills into another position, like CFO, assistant head, or even head of school?  If you can play two disparate positions instead of just one, you might be just what the doctor ordered for a smaller, struggling school.
