The Importance of Patience While Running Your Search

Patience is an important virtue when running a search. After an application window opens, sometimes the candidate pool grows quickly. But other times it may be a while before you see candidates start to trickle in.

The Importance of Patience While Running Your Search

If your application pool is growing at a slower pace, don't rush the hiring process and be careful not to make a knee-jerk offer to the first person who applies. If you have a few initial candidates about whom you're lukewarm, test drive some screen questions and make early tweaks in preparation for future applicants. More candidates usually come in right before an application deadline. In the end, if your applicant pool does not yield what you expected, the market is telling you something. Figure out what adjustments you need to make, and then channel all your patience toward running another hiring cycle — but only when you're mentally ready for that second round of work.  Executive leadership hiring is a marathon, not a sprint.
