Maximizing Your Candidate Reach: A Fresh Approach to Attracting Top Talent

When hiring for a leadership position, what should you do if you did not attract the candidate pool you had hoped for?  In this situation, it may be a good idea to take a step back and examine your marketing tactics. Did you post this position on a sufficient number of job boards, or just the "usual" ones?  Did you leverage social media channels to their fullest potential?  Did you reach out to colleagues for a quick phone call to see whom they know or whether they can help spread the word?  Did you leverage the professional associations to which your coworkers belong to spread the word into peer organizations?  Small changes to your marketing practices have the potential to yield significant improvements to your candidate yield.  If you broaden the scope of your campaign, don't be surprised if an amazing candidate emerges from an unexpected source!
