Turning Setbacks into Success: Navigating Leadership Job Searches

Sometimes, the hiring process may present feelings of defeat. Perhaps you applied to several leadership positions, but did not move forward in any of those searches. On the other hand, you may have advanced to the final round of a search, but did not receive a final employment offer. In these situations, it can be helpful to find a silver lining. For example, you may not have landed the leadership position you desired, but your public speaking skills greatly improved through a presentation you gave to an organization’s leadership team. You may have conducted a difficult performance task, and now feel more confident in that area of focus. Although you may feel down after a hiring process that ends in defeat, finding a silver lining can help you both in your current position and with future searches. Keep your chin up, and know that your day will come soon.
